CHESS CLUB
Who: 40 WUES students, grades K-5th - 20-student competition team and 20-student development class

What: The Mustang Chess Club is back! Bigger and better! Starting the third week of September, the Mustang Chess Club will be held monthly until May 2025. This year, we will be doubling our membership to 40 students! 20 students will join our "Competition Team" which will represent the school at local Scholastic Chess Tournaments. 20 students will join our "Development Class".

When: 3 P.M. to 4.15 P.M. on the third Wednesday and Thursday of each month (likely the Competition Team on Wednesday and the Development Class on Thursday - details to be confirmed)

Where: WUES Campus - classroom TBD

How: If you are interested, please fill in the google form HERE to register your interest by August 31. Sign-ups will be sent on September 4 to everyone who has registered their interest. The Competition Team will be identified by invitation and/or tryouts. The Development Class will be determined on a first come first serve basis.

Additional Info: This year, there will be a charge to chess club families of $180 per student for the year (9 monthly sessions). We will have an experienced external instructor teaching both classes. Any student/family interested in the Competition Team must be committed to attending at least 1 Scholastic Chess Tournament per semester. These tournaments are held on Saturdays and last all day (approx. 8 hours). Development Class members are also welcome to join us at tournaments, but this is not a requirement. Development Class members should be at least "advanced beginner" level - meaning the chess player knows how each piece moves and can play a game all the way through opening, mid game and end game.
