What: Join the WUES virtual Math & Science Night. The feature webinar speakers are Dr. Arthur Benjamin, a professor of mathematics and a magician & Dr. Karen Nyberg, an astronaut with 30 years of experience working for NASA.

6:00 - 6:30pm: MEET MATHEMAGICIAN, DR. ART BENJAMIN

 

6:30 - 6.45pm: 15 minutes intermission

 

6:45 - 7:15pm: MEET ASTRONAUT KAREN NYBERG

 

*Note: There is a small interlude between the speakers. Students are encouraged to stay logged in and may use this break time to grab a snack /dinner.

6:00 - 6:30pm: MEET MATHEMAGICIAN, DR ART BENJAMIN

 

Dr. Arthur Benjamin is both a professor of mathematics and a magician. He has combined his two loves to create a dynamic presentation called "Mathemagics," suitable for all audiences, where he demonstrates and explains his secrets for performing rapid mental calculations faster than a calculator. He has presented his high-energy talk to thousands of groups throughout the world.

6:45 - 7:15 pm: MEET ASTRONAUT KAREN NYBERG

 

Dr. Karen Nyberg is a mechanical engineer and astronaut with 30 years of experience working at NASA on human spaceflight. She was selected as a member of the NASA Astronaut Corps in 2000. Dr. Nyberg made her first trip to space aboard Space Shuttle Discovery in 2008, during the height of International Space Station (ISS) construction. On her second spaceflight in 2013, Dr. Nyberg launched on a Russian Soyuz spacecraft and lived and worked at ISS for 166 days. Recently retired from NASA, Karen Nyberg is pursuing her passions of creating textile art, designing fabrics to inspire interest in STEAM and helping find solutions for the sustainability of our planet. Nyberg lives in Houston, Texas with her Astronaut husband, Doug Hurley and their dino-loving son, Jack.
