As you may have heard, HISD is facing a huge budget shortfall for the 2018-2019 school year. As part of the budget discussions, HISD leadership has presented several proposals to the HISD Board to change the school funding model, magnet program funding throughout the district and application guidelines to magnet programs.

While WUES no longer has magnet status, many of the proposed changes affect our school and schools that your children may attend once they leave WUES.

The proposals at issue go well beyond budget cuts and directly affect the schools in our feeder pattern. We've pulled together some information to help inform parents at WUES.

Action Items

  • Performance Audit - Sue and others have requested that HISD undergo a performance audit. A performance audit would look at both the efficiency of the budget as well as the effectiveness of its expenses, including an analysis of staffing, trans-portation, program effective-ness, and facility/ asset utilization. If you agree that HISD should undergo a performance audit, you can sign a petition here.
