Welcome to Art Night 2020: Home is Where the Art is
While Art Night may look a little different this year than past years, we still promise lots of fun! This year, we are pleased to offer our activities all week with both hands-on activities and video performances for your entertainment. We welcome all students K-5 to participate and share their experiences by emailing photos to firstname.lastname@example.org to be posted to West U PTO’s social media pages all week.*
There will be a raffle draw for those who send their photos. Below, please find a list of all participating vendors with video links to their activities. The links will be active all week so please take your time enjoying each of them. All materials needed will be listed within each section.

Houston’s own professional ballet company brings you part of their education and community engagement initiative. This initiative is committed to providing high-quality, community-sponsored educational programming to the diverse populations of Houston and its surrounding areas. They are now pleased to offer virtual field trips and live virtual classes as a part of this initiative. For more information please visit their website.

VIVALDI MUSIC ACADEMY
Vivaldi Music Academy seeks to foster confidence and creativity in students of all ages through exceptional musical learning. With locations all over Houston, including West University, Vivaldi offers both private and group lessons as well as early childhood music development. Activity: Just sit back, relax and enjoy this performance of Ave Maria by Vivaldi’s own voice teacher Rebecca Heath!

MONAT SCHOOL OF ART
The Monart School of Art, Houston and Pearland is a family-owned and operated school which sets the foundation for tomorrow’s artists through educational art classes, camps, and after-school programs. The primary goal with all classes and camps at Monart is to give students a skill set they can use throughout their lives and the confidence to use it without hesitation. With a wide variety of classes of classes to offer, there is something for everyone! You can learn more here.
Activity: In keeping with the theme, let’s all draw a pet we’d like to have at our home. Use these tutorials or get creative and make your own pet.
Materials: Paper, pencils, markers

GLASSELL SCHOOL OF ART
The Glassell Junior School is an art school for young people, devoted to nurturing creativity and dedicated to fostering an appreciation of the arts and an awareness of the world. Classes and workshops for children ages 3 through 18 are offered year-round. A distinguishing feature of classes at the Glassell Junior School is ready access to works of art in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Visit their website for more information.
Activity: Create & Decorate a Bag from a T-shirt.
Materials: You will need a plain white t-shirt, fabric paint, tacky glue, measuring tape and scissors.

THE ART ROOM
Nelle Hayes, grandmother of Ethan (3rd grade) and Liam Duguid (1st grade) here at West U Elementary is an artist and former high school art teacher from North Carolina. Upon retiring she opened her own art studio and gallery in Greenville, NC. She has now closed the gallery but still creates and sells art, specializing in portraits and ceramics. Some examples of her work can be seen on her Art Room Facebook page.
Activity: Gadget Printing with Pudding Paint.
Materials: You'll need household gadgets, vanilla pudding cups, food coloring and sponges are used. Household gadgets are used as stamps, food colors of choice are added to pudding cups and the pudding is spread into dampened household sponges to use as stamp pads. Gadgets are mashed onto the pudding-soaked sponges then stamped into a design of choice on any paper. Link to video instruction here.
Located in Chicago, Artzy Twinz offers creative art classes for children of all ages, special themed adult night classes, grandparent and grandchild classes, mommy and me classes, drop-in days, and of course themed birthday parties! They will also have camps for no school days during the school year as well as summer camp! To learn more visit their website.
Activity: Heart and Hand-Printed Salt Dough Ornaments.
Materials: You will need flour, water, salt and a large mixing bowl. Follow along with Artzy Twinz and some surprise West U student guests here!
